The beginning

The story of the Lucott kennel started in early 90s. Little 7-years-old girl Laura got her first very own dog; shih tzu Tai Pan “Emma”. With this stubborn golden-white bitch Laura went to the trainings to get to know the basics of dog training and obedience. Years passed until mid-90s when Laura got her second shih tzu owned together with her brother. This lovely black and white girl Alfrida lived too short life due to her kidney sickness but was the engine to give the fire for a more intensive life surrounded by dogs.

Some years later after Alfrida had passed away and Tai Pan was already at the veteran age, Laura got her once in a lifetime –dog – the Bearded Collie Ch. Pythagoraan Heartbreaker “Lotta”. With this Heartbreaker Laura spent the teenage years by training obedience, agility, flyball, water rescuing and, the most of all, did go to dog shows and gave more space for the fire of handling. Since then, Laura has been handling dogs from all the FCI groups.

Getting into a new level

When moving to live by herself, Laura had to leave her Beardie to her parents as they did not let go from Lotta. Tai Pan had already passed away some years ago by leaving loads of memories behind her. Laura had to make a decision - either to live non-dog life when studying or to find another breed that would be small enough to be kept in a flat at almost at the city center. Laura went back on her dreams and American Cocker Spaniel came into her mind - the long lasting dream of hers. In the beginning of 2005 the life changed and a buff Cocker girl Little Life Gold Point did step into Laura's life. That was love in a first sight and Laura is still getting more and more involved with the breed and having rising interest on showing and breeding this wonderful breed.

The present

Everyone has their first dogs of the breeds - for most of the people, the first dog is the most difficult and most taughtful. So does for Laura. However, she has found it really important not to get everything on a golden plate but to learn everything by heart.

Right now, Laura is stabilising between showing and breeding on a small scale. In breeding, she is aiming for a healthy Cocker with loads of cocker attitude together with beautiful body structure. She is really selective on the breeding material to get closer on the image of the “Perfect Cocker” she has got in her mind. She is ready do what is needed to get the best combinations for breeding what is needed. Also, she finds it important to show and do handling around to get to know people better to have good contacts for her future breeding.

Even though Laura is a dog show person from top till toe, she is doing blood tracking, agility and obedience with her dogs also. She has been competing on tracing with her Gold Point – the others are still waiting for starting their careers at competitions.

Planning the future

Suddenly, on May Laura lost her particolor boy. As she is concentrating on breeding solid colours, it is possible that she will not have new particular boy in quite a many years. For sure, there is a place in her heart for a particolor heartbreaker for future also. However, as she is able to have only few dogs at home, she will never be producing a lot of puppies. For sure, she will concentrate on the quality instead of quantity.

Also, Laura will be showing more, for sure, in the coming years. Also her own breeding will take the stage in 2011. For the following years Laura has put some goals also on other hobbies than shows also - she will be busy but she thinks it is worth it as Cockers are not just pretty faces at the coach sitting when not showing.

The story is never ending so stay tuned.
